French Language and Literature eDossier
Bienvenue!
Bonjour! My name is Maryia Shaban. In December 2022, I will graduate from Clemson University with two degrees, in French and Biochemistry (B.A. and B.S.). This eDossier represents a four-year collaboration between my efforts, and the careful guidance of the excellent faculty members at the Modern Languages department of my school. I welcome you to browse this website and learn more about me by sampling some of my literary accomplishments. Working on these projects has enriched my humanities education and facility in communication and interpretation skills for the path ahead!

"To possess another language is to possess another soul"
-Charlemagne

About me:
I grew up in New York City, in a multi-ethnic neighborhood where Italian, Russian, and Arabic languages contributed equally to the noise of an always-busy, sleepless place. I learned Russian at a very young age and quickly began to pick up on the speech patterns and cultural elements that came with the many romance languages at my school. I first began to learn French in a ballet academy. This was strengthened with rigorous grammar lessons by my teachers, in supplement of the colloquial expressions "thrown around" in the theatre. There had then been a time in my adolescent years during which years I was entirely unexposed to languages and literature.
Nevertheless, it took my travelling to Europe alone in the summer before I began school at Clemson, to recognize the value of communication across multiple tongues and through the pages of well-written books. Now, I am on the point of graduating from university with a French and Biochemistry double-major, with many classes of Italian language, and being comfortable communicating in Spanish as well! I intend to pursue a career in medicine and to hopefully always remain a good communicator with people from all walks of life.
