1. FR 3000 Survey of French Literature​

    Study of selected masterpieces of French literature in their artistic, cultural, and historical context. The emphasis is placed on the period of French Enlightenment and the manner in which literary works issuing from France during that period influenced the Age of Reason in the further European context. Final grade: B

 

​2. FR 3040 French Short Story

   Introduction to the study of French narrative literature and the elements of critical analysis through the examination of short stories spanning the medieval era to the present from both France and Francophone countries. Final grade: A

 

​3. FR 3170 Contemporary French Civilization

    Study of significant aspects of France today; the country, its economy, government, and society. Emphasis is placed on the comparison of French political systems with those in greater Europe and the United States. Final grade: A

 

​4. FR 3180 French for Health Professions

    Medical concepts and terminology in French. This course is designed for students who plan to work in the health care professions. Final grade: A

 

​5. FR 4100 Francophone Literature

    Study of selected works of francophone literature emphasizing Africa and the Caribbean in their artistic, cultural, historical, and political contexts. Final grade: A

 

​6. FR 4120 Francophone Cinema

    Examination of cinematic practice as a discourse and the role it plays in the representation of social relations, particularly race, ethnicity, class, power, sex, and gender in the French-speaking world. May include a study of major directors, genres, and movements. Final grade: A

 

​7. FR 4150 Translation Seminar

    Methods and theory of translation and a comparison of French and English structures. Practical exercises in translating from French to English and vice versa in a variety of texts. Final grade: A

 

​8. FR 4980 Independent Study: Marcel Proust

    Independent creative examination of the musical inspiration behind the central sonata of Marcel Proust’s longest and most famous work: “A la recherche du temps perdu”. Independent study culminated in 30-page thesis project explaining progress of ideas throughout the inquiry. Final grade: A

 

​9. FR 4980 Independent Study Patrick Modiano

    Independent literary examination of several temporally related masterpieces written by Patrick Modiano in reflection on the social effects of the Second World War. Final grade: A

 

​10. FR 4980 Independent Study Emmanuel Carrère

     Independent literary examination of Russia in the context of the French political sphere through the works of modern classical author Emmanuel Carrère. Final grade: TBD

 

​11. HIST 3750 Revolutionary Europe

     History of Europe from the outbreak of the French Revolution through the Revolutions of 1848 emphasizing the conflict between the forces of change and those of conservatism, within the states and in Europe in general. Final grade: A

 

​12. THEA 3720 Creative Drama

     Practical applications using creative drama as a learning tool to strengthen group collaboration and creative goals. Students develop strategies for workshop designs in varying settings with focus toward exploration, discovery and broadened perspectives toward group and individual creative practice. Final grade: TBD

 

​13. AAH 1010 Survey of Art and Architectural History in Montreal (University of Montreal).

    On-site survey of famous artistic and architectural marvels in permanent public exhibitions throughout the city of Montreal. Transferred over for course credit at Clemson University. Final Grade: B+
